The rainy season, a season of loneliness. When we look out the window and see raindrops falling, along with a gloomy sky, some may like it while others may not. It's a period of high humidity and frequent rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department of Thailand, in 2024, Thailand's rainy season typically starts from mid-May to mid-October, varying by region. However, due to the "La Niña" phenomenon, Thailand will experience extended rainfall until February 2025. This can affect our health. But! If we do these 7+1 things during the rainy season, we might stay strong and less prone to illness.

Maintain hygiene: Frequent handwashing with soap and clean water is crucial, especially after touching public surfaces, before eating, and after using the bathroom. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands.
Boost immunity: Eat a balanced diet from all five food groups, emphasizing vegetables and fruits high in vitamin C, such as oranges, kiwi, and bell peppers. Exercise regularly and get adequate rest.
Keep your body warm: On cool and humid days, wear warm and appropriate clothing. Avoid getting wet in the rain or staying in cold places for long periods.
Beware of waterborne diseases: Stagnant water can be a source of various diseases like leptospirosis and dengue fever. If you must wade through water, wear boots and wash your feet thoroughly afterward.
Take care of your environment: Eliminate mosquito breeding sites around your home, such as containers with stagnant water. Use screens or mosquito repellents to prevent mosquito bites.
Drink clean water: Even if it's not hot, drinking enough clean water remains important for health. The Nutrition Association of Thailand in 2020 recommended drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day.
Eat freshly cooked food: During the rainy season, food can easily become damp and spoil. Choose freshly cooked foods and avoid those at risk of contamination.
